Cameron is one of the leading oil and gas products and services providers, focusing on continuously increasing performance through global manufacturing of drilling and production systems, valves and measurement systems, and compression systems.
Founded in 1833 by Charles and Elias Cooper in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Cooper received its license to produce the Corliss steam engine in 1869. Thirty years later, Cooper began producing natural gas internal combustion engines. Over the next 100 years, the changing faces in iron works and industrial manufacturing included the incorporation of Cameron Iron Works in Houston. Eventually as Cooper acquired more companies to increase diversity of production, including Cameron Iron Works, the company officially became Cameron International Corporation in 2006.
Cameron offers a wide variety of products and services, both directly and through subsidiaries. After its debut at OTC 2007, Cameron's EVO subsea BOP stack has been recognized as the next generation in drilling. Recently, Songa Offshore awarded Cameron a contract for equipment to modify the mid-water semi submersible Deepsea Trym. This is the company's third order for the EVO BOP with subsea controls, drilling riser and choke manifold.
Another product offered by Cameron DC presents a solution to risks associated with subsea production. The company's subsea electric tree is an all-electric system that is powered by a direct current. It has no batteries, hydraulics or accumulators and will improve reliability, availability and maintainability of production.
As a worldwide contributor to subsea developments, Cameron won a $650 million contract to provide subsea systems for the initial phase of Total's Usan field offshore Nigeria. The contract calls for Cameron to provide subsea systems engineering and project management, Christmas trees, production and intervention control systems, manifold, flow line connection systems and installation support. Once the initial contract is met, Cameron may also supply additional subsea trees and other equipment through 2012.
No doubt Cameron's diverse portfolio of equipment and services has made it one of the leading providers of oil and gas products and services.
