Changing the way offshore vessels are being built by offering a ground-breaking lift capability, the Taisun 20,000 MT gantry crane by Yantai Raffles Shipyard Ltd. earned the OTC 2008 Spotlight on New Technology award.
Due to its successes the Taisun is already contracted to lift nine deck boxes, ranging in weight from 10,000 to 16,000 metric tones (approximately 11,000 to 18,000 tons).

The Taisun gantry crane spans a 380-meter by 120-meter dry dock and consists of two horizontal beams at heights of 89 meters and 119 meters, each with lifting capacity of 10,000 metric tons (11,000 tons). Boasting 96 separate lifting devices, the Taisun will be able to join an entirely outfitted deck box to its hull/pontoons in one activity, allowing complete construction to be undertaken on land before being joined with the hull/pontoons.
The largest rig builder in China, Yantai Raffles Shipyard Ltd. specializes in the construction of jackups, semi-subs, FPSOs, heavy-lift vessels and pipe-lay vessels.
